During my 30+ years as a tax lawyer, I had the opportunity to delve into the private financial lives of all types of people, from multi-billionaires to those struggling to make ends meet. I learned so much, including these things:
#1 People who have healthy relationships with money do better financially than people who have toxic relationships with money, no matter how much they make.
#2 Plenty of people who earn “regular salaries” are financially secure. Many are quiet millionaires among us. They live comfortably, enjoy the lifestyle they choose, and retire with enough money to last into old age.
#3 People say they need money, but they can be astoundingly slow about gathering their assets, particularly claiming money that already belongs to them. After a career of often delivering "bad" money news, I get a kick out of helping people collect money they didn't even realize they have.
It brings me joy to see people, especially women, move from living mediocre financial lives to experiencing fulfilling financial lives that serve their core values. Through My PFF, (Personal Financial Friend) I'm able to motivate, educate, and most of all to be a non-judgmental friend who's always available to talk about money.
On a personal note, being financially secure allows me to spend time with my husband and extended family, travel, volunteer for various non-profits and enjoy several hobbies, including social dancing.
